Allium karataviense
As mentioned with previous botany pictures I really like the onion genus. The above picture, which I took in 2008 either in the botanic garden of Halle or in Gatersleben, Germany, shows one of the many impressive Asian species, Allium karataviense.
Like several others of its large-headed relatives it is an ornamental species, not so much a kitchen herb.
